Sound insulation on a Volkswagen Karmann Ghia coupe from 1968

During this restoration, little remained of the original felt under the upholstery in the sky. Before the roof was re-coated, it was therefore decided to apply insulation, and then immediately in better quality as original for extra comfort.

In addition, there was also the wish to remove the tinny sound from the doors and, with the extra weight of the anti-thumping material, also to ensure a nicer closing door.

For this project we have chosen two Absor-B products.

• Anti-thumping plates of 2.3 mm for both doors and under the roof, a total of 2 m².
• Roller for proper mounting of the plates

Absor-B anti-drumming material remains flexible in all weather conditions (hot or cold, damp or dry). As a result, it absorbs these resonances much better than, for example, bitumen damping materials that cure and therefore hardly absorb the vibrations. Due to the flexible composition, it is optimally suitable for uneven surfaces.

Mounting with a roller gives much more ease of installation and guarantees that the product fully adheres to the substrate and thus prevents trapped air (risk of rust due to condensation).
